During the World Wars

After the end of the First World War, in which the young men from Pomurje fought on all battlefields in which the Austro-Hungarian army participated, the area of Pomurje was annexed to the Kingdom of SHS. Prekmurje was occupied by the army of the Kingdom of SHS in August 1919. From then, the life of the local Slovenes within the national state and the life of the Hungarians as a minority began. During the period between the two great wars, Prekmurje acquired a Slovene image, but for a long time it remained an economically underdeveloped region with the largest share of immigrants and seasonal workers.
